VISA PENDING
"Visa Pending" is a satirical dramedy-meets-musical — a stage-worthy examination of modern migration, human bias, and the invisible borders we all carry.
Logline
When a routine immigration check spirals into a theatrical confrontation, four travelers are forced to face uncomfortable truths about identity, belief, and the illusion of freedom.
Inside a dull, fluorescent-lit secondary inspection room at an international airport, four unlikely travelers await their fate: Bethany, a social media diva with a flair for drama; María, a young student hoping to study in the U.S.; James, a philosophical nomad who lives off the grid; and Father Ezekiel, a spiritual guide with a mysterious past. Over the course of a few intense hours, their lives intersect under the gaze of CBP Officer Greg, who controls their future with a keyboard and a scowl.
What begins as a mundane bureaucratic check turns into a surreal, theatrical exploration of privilege, truth, faith, and freedom — complete with a surprising musical number and a powerful finale.

This story explores and tries to respond to:
who we are?
what do we believe in?
what is to be free?

There’s a piece of me in every character of this play. As an immigrant who has navigated different types of visas, I understand firsthand the tension, hope, and frustration that comes with being held between borders. My professional background in marketing and social media gives me insight into the outsized influence of image and ‘influencers’ in our culture, which is reflected in Bethany’s character. Spiritually, I’m not tied to one religion, but I believe deeply in faith as resilience and inner strength—something echoed in Father Ezekiel’s own journey with doubt. And like James, I’ve traveled widely and learned the freedom of moving through the world lightly, with little more than curiosity and openness to carry me. These perspectives allow me to bring authenticity, humor, and humanity to the story, grounding satire in lived experience
